Evening water taxi
From about 7.00pm Ugly Betty is moored on the Paynesville side of the Strait. To cross to Paynesville look for the transmitter in the Ugly Betty waiting room and hail the taxi by PRESSING THE BUTTON ONCE. The driver will receive your signal and come to the island to pick you up. Remember to smile, the driver holds can see you on a small receiver camera.
Island shuttle bus
During a prolonged and scheduled outage, this service is coordinated and staffed by volunteers to help people travel from home on the island to Ugly Betty's waiting room. The bus runs from about 5am to 11pm (12am on weekends), following the ferry operating day.

When the service is running, bookings are advisable: m:
0458 527 854.
Dogs on the water taxi
During Ugly Betty days, the Shire and ferry drivers often deal with complaints from passengers who are uneasy if travelling with dogs on board. Despite the control that owners exercise, occasional misbehaviour of the dogs towards each other makes passengers uncomfortable. As a result all drivers have been instructed to accept no more than one family’s dog/s per trip.
Bus volunteers
A small army of volunteers staff the bus service from early morning until late at night. Each bus shift needs a driver and jockey. The shifts are 2 hours, however if you wish to drive for longer this may be arranged.

Drivers need a current driver's licence, need to know how to use a mobile phone, and have 00 alcohol/drug blood content. The jockey does not need a licence but needs to answer the mobile phone and record booking details.

If you wish to volunteer please contact Jack and Cathy Holbrook - t: 51561166 or m: 0417 573 279.
Car parking during an outage
When parking your car on the Raymond Island side during an outage, you may noticed that the ferry car park next to the Welcome to Raymond Island jetty is roped off. This is so that the community bus can park when picking up and dropping off passengers, for disability vehicles and the safety of foot traffic.

During an outage, please use the parking areas either along Seventh Parade on the phone box side or the bigger area by the boat ramp and remember to leave the barge area free for emergency vehicles.

Shuttle bus rules
1. No fuel cans are to be carried.
2. To connect with the 5.10am water taxi, you must book the bus prior to 8.00pm the previous day.
3. It is preferred that dogs remain at home, however if your dog must travel, one dog at a time may be carried in the rear area of the bus.
4. When picking up, drivers will not wait for passengers to get ready - and will drive on to the next pick up point.
5. Drivers should avoid reversing where possible.
6. No abuse of volunteers will be tolerated - it will be reported and the person may be banned from using the bus.
When an outage is scheduled, for example for routine maintenance, a passenger taxi (Ugly Betty) and barge for emergency access (Samson) are available.
